Stratigraphic analysis

SWS are useful to obtain direct indications of hydrocarbons (under UV light) and to differentiate between oil and gas. The technique is applied extensively to sample microfossils and pollen for stratigraphic analysis (age dating, correlation, depositional environment). Qualitative inspection of porosity is possible, but very often the sampling process results in a severe crushing of the sample thus obscuring the true porosity and permeability.

Stratigraphical analysis of this fauna shows that it is greatly different from locality no. 2 of Csarnota and locality no. 7 of Osztramos. Not only had the archaic cricetids Cricetinus, Baranomys), relicts of the Pliocene, disappeared from the area but also the forest elements (flying squirrels, asiatic Petauristines, dormice Glirulus, etc.). Steppe elements predominated in the animal communities, with the percentile predominance... 

Since only 8 strata were opened, I will present the fauna lists of the various layers separately (see Fig. 22 for a schematic drawing of the section). No more humus was found at the beginning of the excavation only the remains of the layers in the section left by V6rtes were available. In spite of this, sufiScient material could be secured from each of the layers to obtain an amount of microfauna necessary for separate stratigraphical analysis of the various layers.

Thus it was proposed that, with stratigraphic analysis of lacustrine aquatic cellulose, reconstruction of lake water 0 could be used to document shifts along a LEL and/or MWL from which paleohydrologic and paleoclimatic information may be derived. 

Detailed subsurface stratigraphic analysis is an integral part of any exploration drilling programme. The lithologic data obtained from drill-holes should be fully utilized and integrated to map the subsurface rock, alteration and mineralization...
