This study is a result of a collaboration between Stillwater Mining Company and RHl AG aimed at the determination of refractory products to improve the lining life in the customer s vessel by using optimized corrosion testing methods at RHTs Technology Center. 

Within a direct cooperation project between Stillwater Mining Company and RHl AG a practical testing with different refractory brands and Ca-ferritic slag has been conducted at the Technology Center Leoben. 

For that purpose 120 kg of slag was received from Stillwater Mining Company, for a detailed investigation and for additional rotary kiln tests to be carried out on different magnesia-chromite- and alumina-chromia brick brands. Prior to testing a complete chemical and mineralogical characterization of the slag was earried out at RHl lab facilities. 

In order to adjust the optimal testing eonditions for the rotary kiln test, along with the eomplete ehemieal and mineralogieal eharaeterization, FaetSage ealculations have been earried out on slag samples received from the Stillwater Mining Company... 

During this cooperative work with Stillwater Mining Company a variety of tests were conducted at RHTs research facilities, including a complete characterization of the Ca-ferritic processing slag and two rotary kiln tests at 1500°-1550° and 1650°C.
