Stibine oxides

Stibine Oxides and Related Compounds. Both aUphatic and aromatic stibine oxides, R SbO, or their hydrates, R3Sb(OH)2, are known. Thus both dihydroxotrimethylantimony [19727-41-4], C3H2202Sb, and trimethyl stibine oxide [19727-40-3], C H OSb, have been prepared. The former maybe readily obtained by passing an aqueous solution of dichi orotrimethyl antimony [13059-67-1], C3H2Cl2 > through an anionic-exchange resin (151).

The general chemistry here, though not as extensively investigated as yet, follows the general pattern of the corresponding halo phosphine complexes, (see Table 18). As with these and with the halo stibines, oxidation states of II, III and IV are represented. 

Relatedly, despite the synthesis and structural characterization of numerous arsine and stibine oxides, bomb calorimetry measurements have only been reported on triphenylarsine oxide . While corresponding measurements have been made on triphenylarsine, it is clearly premature to make general observations as to E—O bond enthalpies in the absence of additional data. In principle, reaction calorimetry should prove useful. Indeed, we note a solution phase (benzene) enthalpy of reaction study of triphenylarsine and -butyl hydroperoxide according to the reaction...
