Steroid alkaloids Buxus group

Chapter 1. Steroid Alkaloids The Veratrum and Buxus Groups J. Tomko and Z. Voticky... [Pg.623]

Buxus steroid alkaloids. Steroid alkaloids with 9)8,19-cyclopregnane or 9(10- 19)-afeeo-pregnane structure, but with 1 to 3 additional methyl groups at C-4 and/or C-14 as well as amino functions at C-3 and/or C-20. They are isolated from numerous species of the Buxaceae genus Buxus. To date about 200 B.s. are known. In order to achieve transparency and especially to reduce the number of incomprehensible trivial names for new compounds it was proposed to ac-... [Pg.97]

Table 1 Identification of the methyl group substitution pattern at N(3) and N(20) of Buxus steroid alkaloids. Table 1 Identification of the methyl group substitution pattern at N(3) and N(20) of Buxus steroid alkaloids.
Buxus alkaloids steroid alkaloids characteristic of plants in the boxwood genus (Buxus). They are structurally related to pregnane (see Steroids), with additional methyl groups on C4 and C14, amino or methylated amino functions on C3 and C20, and usually a 16a-hydroxyl group and a 9,10-cyclopropane ring. B.a. are biosynthesized via cycloartenol or a similar triterpenoid precursor. [Pg.82]
