Staudinger reaction basic principles

Staudinger was always rather confused in exposition, Carothers was both precise and elegant. A flurry of experimental work was summarized in the monumental paper entitled Polymerization pubhshed in 1931 in Chemical Reviews [3]. The basic principles of condensation polymerization were established beyond dispute. The whole landscape of polymeric substances was considered in detail. Any coupling reaction that was known to chemistry could be used in the synthesis of a polymer.
