Status and Perspectives of IRSR Facilities

LNF-INFN Frascati in 1996 and LURE-Orsay in 1997) and has published the first book entirely devoted to IRSR. In recent years several other meetings and workshops devoted to IRSR and its appKcations have been organized in the USA and Europe, where old and new SR facihties offer scientific opportunities for research in the IR domain. 

The imaging techniques available in many IRSR facilities are now implemented in FPA or linear array detectors (see Chapter 7). 

Teams working at synchrotron IR beamlines all around the world have installed and tested or are going to install array detectors on their IR microscope end-stations. The scenario is changing continuously, and many facilities with IR microspectroscopy beamlines are planning the installation of mid-IR arrays in the near future. 

With regard to IR sources, in addition to the development of IR edge radiation in the recent years, interest is steadily increasing in the science of 

Ring-based sources completely optimized for the generation of coherent terahertz SR, and which exploit the full complement of the CSR production mechanisms mentioned above, have been proposed in the USA and in Italy. 4
