Statistical upper mantle assemblage

A central point in the argument of Meibom and Anderson (2003) is that a lower mantle source is not necessary as a source for OIB. Hence all the processes of partial melting and sampling of the mantle that they describe can take place in the upper mantle. However, there is no reason in principle why the Statistical Upper Mantle Assemblage model of the mantle cannot be applied to the whole mantle.
