Static Spectroscopic Studies

We consequently undertook the infrared and Raman26, 34 spectroscopic study of the tetramethylethyl cation 154 and for comparisons a series of alkyl cations with known static structure, such as the f-butyl, f-amyl, and isopropyl cations 1, 3 and 2. The nearly identical spectra of the ions and the evident planarity (or close to planarity) of the carbocation centers suggest that the tetramethylethyl cation is classical , similar to the static ions used for comparison. [Pg.65]

Schmitz and Sorensen have prepared the nortricyclylmethyl cation (117), a static primary cyclopropylmethyl cation. The and NMR spectroscopic studies of 117 indicate that the system has features of both a bridged... [Pg.227]

In the last decade a number of in situ NMR spectroscopic studies on chemical reactions catalyzed by zeolites have been reported. Surveys of the most important static in situ NMR [ 1 ] and in situ MAS NMR [4,235] investigations have been published. [Pg.283]

The above described methodologies have allowed us to conduct spectroscopic studies with a finesse which is not easily attainable using conventional techniques. These laser based techniques in some combination or variation have provided us with the means to resolve or to deconvolute intrinsic features connected with the energy level structure of the systems of interest. These features have so far been assumed to remain static as a function of time. This is, of course, not always the case as various interactions of centers with their environs produce dynamical changes in the excited state and lead to relaxation, optical energy dissipation and transfer. These processes are not generally radiative. [Pg.449]
