The first chapter concerns the chemistry of the oxidation catalysts, some 250 of these, arranged in decreasing order of the metal oxidation state (VIII) to (0). Preparations, structural and spectroscopic characteristics are briefly described, followed by a summary of their catalytic oxidation properties for organic substrates, with a brief appendix on practical matters with four important oxidants. The subsequent four chapters concentrate on oxidations of specific organic groups, first for alcohols, then alkenes, arenes, alkynes, alkanes, amines and other substrates with hetero atoms. Frequent cross-references between the five chapters are provided. [Pg.264]

Here only four of the six possible resonance contributors to the excited state VIII are drawn. [Pg.189]

The coordination chemistry of Os features a very wide variety of oxidation states (see Oxidation Number) from high oxidation state VIII d Os to low oxidation state —II d Os . High oxidation state metal complexes are associated with strong a -donor and n -donor (see n -Base) ligands such as 02- (Os 04), ([Os OsN]-), and F (Os °Fy), while... [Pg.3337]

The exchange reaction of methane with a lutetium complex apparently proceeds via the transition state VIII-1 rather than via oxidative addition involving intermediate VIII-2. Quantum-chemical calculations have been carried out [23] for the mechanism including inter alia a four-electron four-center transition... [Pg.327]

The mechanism proposed for the formation of the complex W(PMe3)4(Ti -CH2PMc2)H from W(PMc3)6 involving a concerted C-H bond metalation via the intermediate or transition state VIII-6 has been discounted by the lack of an... [Pg.332]

These observations, especially the practical identity of state VII with the ferricyanide-oxidized form (state VIII), strongly suggest that the hematin a globin complex does not possess any oxygenative property or at least does not show up in the spectral behavior as myoglobin or hemoglobin does. All of these results, however, only show that the reduced form of the complex is autoxidizable but that the oxidized form cannot be reduced by reduced cytochrome c or by tetrahydroquinone. Why the oxidized form in state VII diflFers from that in state I is discussed below. [Pg.213]

During the reaction, osmium is reduced from oxidation state VIII (in OSO4) to VI (in H2OSO4). [Pg.106]
