Starch dried

The protein fraction is filtered and dried to become high (60%) protein content com gluten meal. The starch slurry can be dewatered and dried to produce regular com starch. Dry starch can be sold as is or heat treated in the presence of acid catalysts to produce dextrins. Or, it is chemically modified before dewatering and drying to produce modified starches used in food and industrial appHcations. Lasdy, it can be hydroly2ed to produce corn sweeteners. [Pg.360]

Starch dried at 212° to 266° in a vacuum, and suspended in absolute alcohol, does not unite with iodine dissolved in the same menstruum but if a little water be added, a yiolet coloration, which deepens in shade by standing, Is immediately produced. From this behavior it might be anticipated that alcohol would abstract iodine from the amylaceous compound. This is to a great extent the fact, for on agitating the blue... [Pg.948]

In the above studies compression and injection moulding were carried out with native potato starch dried at room temperature and then mixed with 7% water. After processing, the samples were subjected to ambient atmosphere and investigated after a storage time of at least 4 weeks. [Pg.215]

Corn contains 82% starch (dry weight basis) and an unfermentable residue of corn oil, gluten, fiber, etc. How many litres of 100% ethanol (density 0.789 kg/L) would be obtained from one metric tonne of dry corn, assuming quantitative conversions of starch to fermentable sugars, and sugar fermentation to ethanol ... [Pg.551]

Starch,—The earliest preparation of starch was no doubt made from wheat, and was called amylum by the Greeks, since it was not obtained by grinding in a mill as flour is. Dioscorides states that the best kind of starch flour is obtained from Cretan or ICgyptian wheat. The grain was steeped hi water to soften it, and then kneaded and washed with water. The husks were next sieved out, aud the deposited starch dried ou bricks in the sun, since if left moist it soon became sour. Pliny (lib. xviii. c. 7) gives a. similar account, and states that starch was discovered at Chios. [Pg.3]

SEC profiles of hydrolysis products of enzyme-treated starch as a function of reaction time at 60°C and 80°C are shown in Figures 5 and 6 respectively. In both cases, a common enzyme dose of one ml of the 1 19 stock Novo Thermamyl solution was mixed with a slurry of 15 gms starch dry basis in 75 ml water and added to the reactor. The final volume was 1500 ml. [Pg.452]
