Stamen hair-stunting

J. Loss of Reproductive Integrity (Stamen-Hair Stunting)... [Pg.195]

For the determination of hair stunting, the number of cells per hair is required. Hair stunting can occur in all hairs throughout the stamen. However, the cell number per hair in the upper one-third of the hairbearing region is somewhat less than in the lower two-thirds, so it is more convenient to use only hairs from the upper region. In fact, because the cell number per hair decreases slightly from base to apex of the filament. [Pg.195]

It is possible to distinguish three types of stamen-hair populations for studies involving hair stunting. The first is simply the entire hair population consisting of both normal and abnormal hairs, the second is that population of hairs which contains no aberrant cells, and the third is that population which consists only of those hairs with particular types or combinations of aberrations. Survival curves may be obtained from each population. Figure 13 shows examples of survival curves which... [Pg.201]
