Prenner, G., Box, M. S., Cunniff, I. and Rudall, P. J. (2008). The branching stamens of Ricinus and the homologies of the angiosperm stamen fascicle. International Journal of Plant Sciences, 169, 735-744. [Pg.153]

Styracece or Benzoin Family.—Shrubs or low trees. Leaves alternate to opposite, entire, often- acuminate. Flowers hermaphrodite, regular, rarely sub-irregular, either in condensed fascicles or solitary in the.axils of the leaves sepals and petals typically five each corolla often white, rarely pinkish or yellowish stamens many to four to two, perigynous or sub-h5 ogynous pistil bicarpellary or four to five carpellate. Fruit either fleshy or dry, often winged and rarely as many-celled as there are carpels. [Pg.381]

Other distinguishing features Stamens united at base into 3-5 fascicles. Stems ridged below leaves. [Pg.138]

Other distinguishing features Stems rough, stamens in 3 fascicles. [Pg.139]

Malvales Bixaceae, Cistaceae, Cochlospermaceae, Malvaceae s.l. Many polyandrous genera Mostly intrazonal centrifugal stamens often in fascicles sometimes temporal overlap with carpel initiation Corner, 1946 Van Heel, 1966 Tucker, 1999 [Pavonia-Malvaceae)... [Pg.146]

Triuridaceae (Pandanales) Centrifugal carpels in fascicles central stamens initiated first in Lacandonia Rudall, 2008... [Pg.147]

The inner tier consists of complex antesepalous fascicles and the half-anthers represent highly divided antesepalous stamens with elaborate connective extensions in between. [Pg.292]

My observations clearly demonstrate the sequential initiation of stamen and staminode primordia as separate pairs, not as fascicles. There is no evidence of a different growth rate between adjacent half-anthers and pairs of staminodes, suggesting that they belong together. [Pg.293]
