Split nut

The direct fire dryer consists of a bamboo grill platform where the split nuts are placed. Underneath is a fire hearth where coconut shells and husks are burned to provide heat for the vaporization of water from the kernels. The kernels shrink and are separated from the shells for further drying. Smoke from the burning fuel imparts a light brown color on the copra and its oil. [Pg.771]

Since nuts that are split are more readily invaded by A. flavus than sound nuts, the split nuts should be separated from intact nuts after dehulling and should be stored separately (S). ... [Pg.236]

The longitudinal travel of the carriage is obtained from the leadscrew through a split nut housed in the apron and operated by a lever on the apron front, Fig. 9.33. By closing the split nut, the drive can be started at any position. [Pg.147]

The chart shows the gear used for a particular pitch of thread and the numbers on the thread indicator dial at which the split nut may be engaged. To cope with the different diameters of gears, the unit pivots and is locked in position when the gear is in mesh. To avoid unnecessary wear, the unit is pivoted back out of mesh when not in use for screw-cutting. [Pg.147]

Wait until the appropriate numher on the thread indicator dial comes round to the mark and engage the split nut... [Pg.148]

When the end of the workpiece is reached, unwind the cross-sUde to remove the tool from the work and disengage the split nut This is done in one movement At aU times during screw-cutting, one hand should he resting on the cross-sUde hand-wheel, the other on the spUt-nut lever. [Pg.148]

Wait for the correct number on the thread indicator dial, engage the split nut, and repeat until the final depth is reached. [Pg.148]

Imperial threads are designated not by their pitch but by the number of threads per inch (tp.L). The leadscrew of a metric centre lathe has a pitch of 6mm and, since the number of t.p.i. cannot be arranged as a multiple of the leadscrew pitch, the split nut, once it is engaged, must never be disengaged during the thread-cutting operation. This also means that the thread indicator dial is of no use when cutting imperial threads on a metric lathe. [Pg.148]

The procedure when cutting imperial threads on a metric lathe is the same as before up to the point when the split nut is disengaged and a trial cut taken. [Pg.148]

When the end of the workpiece is reached, withdraw the tool and stop the machine but do not disengage the split nut... [Pg.148]

Repeat until the thread has been cut to size before disengaging the split nut. [Pg.149]

The press is suitably of the down-stroking two-column type, as shown in Fig. 7. The two columns are connected to the cylinder- and bottom platens by split nuts and check nuts. The pullback cylinder is suspended in the main cylinder so as to reduce the overall height. The pullback plunger acts on a crosshead which is connected to the plunger crosshead by two tie-rods. The plunger head carries the extrusion ram, on the bottom of which is fixed the die. The ram is bored out and provided at its bottom end with a curved outlet, through w hich it is possible to push out the die w ith the help of a rod. [Pg.9]

The counterplaten is connected to the cylinder-platen by three columns, the ends of which are kept prestressed by split nuts and lock washers (see p. 196). [Pg.74]

Different designs for converting rotary motion of a motor to the linear motion of the neutron absorber are in existence. These include rope and pulley mechanisms, rack and pinion drives and screw and nut mechanisms with split nuts for scramming. Use of linear induction motor or a linear synchronous motor eliminates use of a rotary prime mover thereby providing more reliability. However, these mechanisms are larger in size for the same load capacity and are not very popular for reactor applications. Rope and pulley mechanisms permit flexible layout of drive mechanisms with respect to the neutron absorber and can be accommodated within a very small >ace. While using rope and pulley mechanisms, proper tools ate necessary for retrieval of neutron absorber assembly subsequent to incidental rope snapping. [Pg.61]
