Spirillum minor

The two microorganisms responsible for rat-bite fever, Spirillum minor and Streptobacillus moniliformis, are sensitive to penicillin G, the drug of choice. Since most cases due to Streptobacillus are complicated by bacteremia and often by infections of the synovia and endocardium, a daily dose of 12-15 million units given parenterally for 5-4 weeks is used. [Pg.736]

Spirillar fever A form of rat bite fever, caused by Spirillum minor, first described as sodoku in Japan. [Pg.1182]
