Place the victim on his back on a hard surface in a face up position. Problems with aspirating vomitus can be reduced by having the head slightly lower than the trunk of the body. An open airway is essential and can be maintained by placing something, such as a rolled up jacket, under the victim s shoulders to raise them several inches.
