Spectra of Transition Element Compounds

Nine vibrational modes in the Raman and far-IR spectra of Sc2 C84 were identified as scandium-cage vibrations.  

Ah initio calculations of vibrational wavenumbers for lanthanide trihalides suggested some re-assignments of modes for ScBrs, YF3 and YCI3. Raman spectroscopy was used to characterise the solution-phase structures of [Ln WioOse] , where Ln = Y, La, Ce, Pr, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Er or Lu, and [M WioOse], where M = Ce or Th.  

The resonance Raman spectrum of Y2 in argon matrices contained a sequence of bands consistent with cOe = 184.4(4) cm , and cOeXe = 0.30(3) cm . Similar data for La2 show that in this case = 236.0 0.8 cm , cOeXe = 0.9 0.2 cm .  

Ah initio calculations of vibrational wavenumbers have been reported for LiLnX4, where Ln = La or Dy, X = F, Cl, Br or I. The complexes LaX3(THF)4 have vLaX modes at 178 cm (X = Br) or 156 cm (I). For LaBr3(DME)2, vLaBr(t) bands are at 175 and 150 cm , with vLaBr(br) 138 and (probably) 112 cm . In [LaBr2(diglyme)][LaBr4(diglyme)]. Terminal vLaBr stretches are at 177 and (probably) 135 cm.
