A new system for the metabolic investigation of the isolated perfused rat heart has been developed. The novel two surface-coil probe was combined with a dual perfusion system which allows spectra to be collected independently from the two coronary beds of the heart. The technique has been demonstrated in an experiment where P NMR spectra were collected from a perfused rat heart in which the septum and right ventricle were made ischaemic whilst the left ventricle wall was fully perfused.Spatially localised in vivo P NMR and MRI have been used to measure mean murine myocardial PCr/ ATP ratios of 2.0 0.2 and left ventricular ejection fractions of 65 7% at a physiological heart rate of approximately 600 beats min . ... [Pg.402]

Should the charge carrier become trapped at a surface-state, then the problem becomes virtually identical to the homogenous two-state problem, i.e., the donor and acceptor states are both spatially localised over dimensions comparable to typical molecular dimensions. [Pg.109]

In the above example, the spatial localisation produced was in the radial coordinate. It is also possible, by using Rydberg states, to produce localisation in the angular coordinates, although the method of prepare tion of the wavepacket is then different. [Pg.53]

Effects due to the geometric phase (GP) have been reported by Joubert-Doriol, Ryabinkin and Izmaylov. In particular they report on symmetry breaking and spatial localisation, and on GP effects studied with the multi-dimensional LVQ model. In the first study by Ryabinkin and Izmaylov the ground state dynamics is considered of a two-state system approximated by (a) a Hamiltonian of a two-state Cl model, (b) the Born-Oppenheimer (BO) model and (c) a BO model augmented with an explicit GP dependence in the kinetic energy operator. It is demonstrated that... [Pg.16]
