SOtalOl [ban, INN] (sotalol hydrochloride [usan] Sotacor ) is a (both class II and III) antiarrhythmic and (subtype-non-selective) -adrenoceptor antagonist, which is relatively water-soluble. Chemically, it is a racemate with the receptor-biocking activity residing in the (-)-isomer, and antiarrhythmic activity shown by both (the (-1-) -S-form is dexsotalol). Therapeutically, it is normally used as an antiarrhythmic rather than as an antihypertensive. sotalol hydrochloride sotalol. soterenol [inn] (soterenol hydrochloride [usan]) is a P-ADRENOCEPTOR AGONIST. Therapeutically, it can be used as a BRONCHODILATOR in ANTIASTHMATIC treatment. [Pg.260]

Sotalol hydrochloride is a beta-adrenergic-blocking agent, which blocks beta receptors, which primarily affect heart (slows rate), vascular musculature (decreases BP), and lungs (reduces function). Betapace is used in the management or prevention of life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias. Betapace AT is used in the maintenance of normal sinus rhythm in patients with highly symptomatic atrial fibrilla-tion/atrial flutter (AFIB/AFL) (Betapace AF). [Pg.650]

The infrared spectrum of sotalol hydrochloride is depicted in Figure 4. The spectrum was obtained on a KBr disk using a Nicolet 20 SX Fourier Transform infrared spectrometer. Diagnostic peaks were observed at 3570 cm (secondary alcohol, free) 3410 cm l (secondary alcohol, H-bonded) 2700-2800 cm l and 2950-3200 cm l (hydrochloride) 1325 cm (S=0 asymmetric stretch) 1154 cm l (S=0 symmetric stretch). The peaks are presented in Table I. [Pg.504]
