Many physical properties are related to solution concentration expressed as molality, m, the number of moles of solute dissolved in one kilogram of solvent. The defining equation is [Pg.473]

If a solution contains 0.755 mole of acetic acid per kilogram of water, we identify it as 0.755 m CH3COOH. In words it is point seven-five-five molal acetic acid. In a calculation setup we would write 0.755 mol CHjCOOH/kg H2O.  [Pg.473]

Like molarity, molality is defined as a ratio that leads to a Per relationship. Notice that the units in the denominator are kilograms, but the mass of solvent is usually given in grams. To be used in the defining equation, the solvent mass must be changed to kilograms. [Pg.473]
