Solids mixing tumbling

Batch tests (i. e., tests on individual waste materials) are conducted with the provided solid suspensions (e.g., soils such as Woodburn, Sagehill, and Olyic, as well as two bottom sediment samples) prepared with previously air-dried solids (i. e., soils and bottom sediments), ground to a uniform powdery texture for mixing with the eluates from the 24-h batch leaching test of the different SWMs/COMs. The concentrations of eluates in solution were designed to evaluate the capability of different environmental solids to adsorb available contaminants. The solid particles were fully dispersed with the aqueous phase to achieve complete adsorption. Common practice is to use a solid solution ratio of 1 g 4 ml [ 1 ], together with proper tumbling of the samples at a constant temperature (e.g., at least 24 h in a constant temperature environment of 20°C). 

Bulk polymerization was also studied briefly (Table II), adapting a technique useful in production of impact styrene (I). Solid polybuta-diene was dissolved in styrene, mixed with acrylonitrile and/or methyl methacrylate, charged into a 12-ounce crown-cap bottle, flushed with nitrogen, and tumbled end-over-end at 42 rpm in a constant-temperature water bath for 16 hours at room temperature, 48 hours at 80 °C, and 48 hours at 90°C, then heated in an oven 24 hours at 110°C and 24 hours at 150°C. The conversion of Cubic P to organozeolites is observed by following the rise in pH (measured at room temperature) (J ). X-ray diffraction was used to measure extent of conversion. Zeolite synthesis reactions were carried out at 135 C with 30 rpm tumbling in Parr 4745 reactors with Teflon cups. Unless otherwise stated, the synthesis mix consisted of 0.50 g Cubic P, 2.5 millimols quaternary ammonium halide, 5.0 g Banco "N" silicate solution (38.5% solids, Si02/Na20 = 3.22), and 12 mL water. The ball mill is a useful device for grinding solids that are not too hard. It consists of a porcelain crock with a capacity of perhaps two liters that can be sealed and rotated mechanically. The container is charged with approximately equal volumes of the sample and flint or porcelain balls with a diameter of 20 to 50 mm. Grinding and crushing occur as the balls tumble in the rotating container. A finely ground and well-mixed powder can be produced in this way. 

Since some earlier processes had yielded agglomerates from solids after wetting them with liquids, the first techniques that quickly became the standard for fertilizer granulation followed these precedents. Such plants (Fig. 6.6-1) include an appropriate number of sUos for the raw components (1) from which the correct amounts are metered (2). Recycling fines are added at a fixed rate.
