Sola nine

The individual A. or their parent N-bases often derive their names fijom the natural product (example tro-pane=parent base of atropine and of cocaine) or finm the plants in which the A. occur (example sola-nine, vincamine), and sometimes from their physiological properties, like, e.g. morphine (Greek. Morpheus = god of sleep) and emetine (emetic, see ipecac alkaloids). [Pg.17]

Alkaloids such as solanidine and tomatidine are related to diosgenin in terms of structure. These cholesterol-derived metabolites usually occur as the 3-(7-glycosides (e.g., sola-nine and tomatine) (Mann, 1987) (see Chapter 36). [Pg.458]

Many steroidal alkaloids are repellent or antifeedant to insects. This may be attributable largely to the membrane destabilizing effects of the alkaloids (Roddick et al., 1988). Demissidine (76), solacauline (75), soladulcine (74), sola-nine (71), and tomatidine (52) are phagorepellent to Leptinotarsa decimlineata (Colorado potato beetle). a-Chaconine (72), solanidine (49), solanine (71), and tomatidine (52) are feeding deterrents to Choristoneura (Wink, 1993). [Pg.682]

C,8H320i5 488.442 Present in alkaloidal glycosides a-Sola-nine, a-Solamarine and Solasonine (see for example under Spirosol-5-en-3-ol. [Pg.876]

Tomatoes contain small amounts of solanine. (See SOLA-NINE.)... [Pg.1023]
