Soft tissues optimization

Promoting an Optimal Response to Therapy The glucocorticoids may be administered orally, IM, SC, IV, topically, or as an inhalant. The primary health care provider may also inject the drag into a joint (intra-articular), a lesion (intralesional), soft tissue, or bursa The dosage of the drug is individualized and based on the severity of the condition and the patient s response. [Pg.526]

To date, many of the studies on the vibrahonal spectroscopic imaging of soft tissues have been carried out on ex vivo specimens that were either snap-frozen at the time of collection or fixed using formalin, or transferred to an optimal... [Pg.118]

Because the reductions in Hounsfield attenuation accompanying early stroke are small - indeed, often barely perceptible to the human eye - the precise window and level settings (measured in HU) used for CT image review are important variables in the detection of subtle ischemic hypodensity. These settings are known to influence lesion conspicuity and diagnostic accuracy in diseases other than stroke. For example, in the CTA evaluation of severe carotid artery stenosis, optimal window and level viewing parameters are required for precise luminal diameter measurement [23-25]. In abdominal CT, the routine use of narrow liver windows has been advocated in order to improve soft tissue contrast within the liver, thereby increasing the conspicuity of subtle lesions [26]. [Pg.47]

The intimate contact between implant and tissue is a decisive prerequisite for the biocompatibility of long-term implants in soft tissue application. To achieve this an interface must be created which provokes optimal cell growth. As for the... [Pg.31]

Ultrasonic transducers for medical imaging utilize piezoelectric ceramics and composites to generate an ultrasonic beam that can penetrate soft tissue. The same transducer then picks up the reflections off internal structure, organs, fetus, etc. These transducers most often consist of square-cross-section piezoelectric rods in a polymer matrix. These are formed by a dice-and-fill process. Figure 3.47 shows various piezoelectric-polymer composites used to optimize the performance for various applications. The diced 1-3 composite is typically used in ultrasonic transducer applications. [Pg.197]
