Sodium paraperiodate

C. F. Rammelsberg found that if a soln. of lithium carbonate be nearly neutralized with periodic acid, a crystalline mass is obtained when evaporated in a warm place.5 The crystals have the composition trihydrated lithium dimesoperiodate, Li4l209.3H20, which can also be regarded as secondary sodium paraperiodate, Li2H3I06. They lose no water at 100°, but 9 28 per cent, is lost at 200°, and at 275° oxygen comes off as well. [Pg.408]

Twenty grams of sodium paraperiodate are dissolved in 40ml water and 11ml of concentrated nitric acid is added... [Pg.51]

Sodium periodate, and less frequently potassium periodate, are employed in oxidations which are to be carried out within the pH range 3-5. Sodium metaperiodate (NaI04) has a solubility in water of c. 0.07 g per ml the addition of alkali leads to the precipitation of the far less soluble sodium paraperiodate (Na2H3I06, disodium trihydrogen orthoperiodate, water solubility c. 0.20%). Sodium paraperiodate is available commercially and may be converted into the... [Pg.454]

For each 100 g. of sodium paraperiodate, 200 ml. of water and 55 ml. of concentrated nitric acid (a 50 per cent excess)... [Pg.170]

The basicity of sodium paraperiodate is determined by titration with acid after reduction to iodate by boiling with neutral hydrogen peroxide ... [Pg.170]

The directions for the preparation differ from those for the preparation of sodium paraperiodate only in that 135 g. of potassium chlorate is used and 195 g. of pure potassium hydroxide. Since the latter always contains water, its percentage purity must be known. The yield is nearly 180 g. (98 to 99 per cent), and the purity is 99.5 per cent. [Pg.171]
