Addition of A-mesityl benzimidazolyl carbene 720 to an a,/3-unsaturated aldehyde generates a homoenolate intermediate that undergoes an addition/acylation sequence with azomethine imine 719 to afford (3R, 5S, 6S )-177-pyrazolo[l,2- ]pyridazine-l,8(5//)-diones 721 with excellent diastereoselectivity. Compound 721 (Ar = R = Ph) treated with sodium hydoxide in methanol or benzylamine provided nearly quantitatively, ring-opened products 722a and 722b, respectively (Scheme 116) <2007JA5334>. 

Procedure 1.5 g of freshly ignited and cooled zinc oxide is accurately weighed and dissolved with 2.5 g of ammonium chloride in 50 ml of 1 N sulphuric acid with the help of gentle heating. After complete dissolution, add methyl orange and titrate the excess of sulphuric acid with 1 N sodium hydoxide. Each millilitre of 1 N sulphuric acid is equivalent to 40.6 mg of ZnO.

As for the case in PAn, the conductivity of PPy and poly(N-methylpyrrole) films is also strongly affected by the applied potential in liquid SO2 [171]. Van Dyke et al [172] reported that the potential domain in which PPy is conductive can be extended in non-aqueous media, e.g., acetonitrile. Normally, the PPy films are conductive above about —0.4 V vs. SCR but this can be extended down to about —1.1 V by simply treating the doped film with sodium hydroxide. This effect was attributed to the shift in the reduction potential of hydoxide-doped PPy because of its large association constant with oxidized pyrrole sites.
