Sodium decanoate

Sodium decanoate (sodium caproate) [1002-62-6] M 194.2. Neutralised by adding a slight excess of the free acid, recovering the excess acid by Et20 extraction. The salt is crystd from solution by adding pure acetone, repeating the steps several times, then dried in an oven at ca 110° [Chaudhury and Awuwallia Trans Faraday Soc 77 3119 1981]. [Pg.468]

Sodium dodecanoate (sodium laurate) [629-25-4] M 222.3, pK 5.3 (-COOH). Neutralised by adding a slight excess of dodecanoic acid, removing it by ether extraction. The salt is recrystd from aq soln by adding pure Me2CO and repeating the process (see sodium decanoate on p. 468). Also recrystd from MeOH. [Pg.470]

A final example of the simulation of a complex system is a series of MD simulations of bilayer membranes. Membranes are crucial constituents of living organisms they are the scene for many important biological processes. Experimental data are known for model systems for example for the system sodium decanoate, decanol and water that forms smectic liquid crystalline structures at room temperature, with the lipids organized in bilayers. [Pg.115]

Thermodynamics of the Mixed Micellar System Sodium Decanoate-2-Butoxyethanol in Water at 25 ° C... [Pg.79]

In the present study, the system sodium decanoate (NaDec)-BE-water will be reported. The advantage of this system Is that It Is possible to make measurements below the CMC of NaDec (0.12 mol kg ) while this CMC Is still far from the effective CMC of BE ( 1 mol kg- ). Also, It Is possible to prepare a sllver/sllver decanoate... [Pg.80]

E. coli XLl-Blue was grown at 37°C in Luria-Bertani (LB) medium (containing 10 g/L of tryptone, 5 g/L of yeast extract, and 5 g/L of NaCl). Recombinant E. coli strains for the PHA production were cultivated at 30°C for 72 h in LB medium containing two different carbon sources (1) 2 g/L of sodium decanoate (Sigma, St. Louis, MO) and (2) 10 g/L of sodium gluconate (Junsei, Tokyo, Japan) plus 2 g/L of sodium decanoate. All the flask cultures were carried out in triplicate in a rotary shaker at 250 rpm. For the cultivation of recombinant E. coli strains, ampicillin (50 mg/L) was added to the medium. [Pg.340]

Cells were cultivated for 72 h in LB medium supplemented with different carbon sources. All experiments were carried out in triplicate. Sodium decanoate and sodium gluconate were added to concentrations of 2 g/L and 10 g/L, respectively. [Pg.342]

Furthermore, permeation enhancers may differ in their delivery requirements in order to guarantee best performance. Sodium decanoate was more effective in permeation enhancement from the rat jejunum when administered at a concentration of 50 mM over 30 min than when administered at 100 mM over 15 min (Baluom et al. 1998). [Pg.96]

As pointed out by Baluom and colleagues, absorption enhancers are efficient in small body cavities such as the nasal and the rectum [52], In the fed state, the issues of dilution during gastric mixing would probably obviate the possibility of interaction between the dispersed phase and the small intestine. Using a perfused rat model, the authors showed that a synchronized administration of an absorption enhancer (sodium decanoate) is required for optimal absorption of a poorly absorbed drug (cefazoline) and that levels of the enhancer need to be sustained rather than high. [Pg.582]
