Sodium acetate 8-propiolactone polymerization

Boileau, Kaempf, Schue and coworkers have studied the cryptate mediated anionic addition polymerization of several systems including ethylene oxide [38], propylene sulfide [39-40], isobutylene sulfide [40], isoprene [38], methyl methacrylate [38], hexamethyl trisiloxane [40], e-caprolactone [41], styrene [38, 40, 41], ct-methylstyrene [41], 1,1-diphenylethylene [41] and /3-propiolactone [42]. The polymerization of the latter compound induced by dibenzo-18-crown-6 complexed sodium acetate has also been reported [43]. In general, it was found that the polymer-... [Pg.131]

In Lodz, p-propiolactone was initiated with crowned sodium acetate, and in Paris, with the same initiator but with the cryptated cation. Both systems behave nicely as living ones and were the first instances (published at the same time) of living polymerization of cyclic esters (lactones) where two kinds of active species could be detected. [Pg.13]

ANILINE (62-53-3) Combustible liquid (flash point 158°F/70°C). Unless inhibited (usually by methanol), readily able to polymerize. Violent reaction, including the possibility of fire, explosion, and the formation of heat- or shock-sensitive compounds may result from contact with acetic anhydride, benzene diazonium-2-carboxylate, aldehydes, alkalis, benzenamine hydrochloride, boron trichloride, l-bromo-2,5-pyrrolidinedione, chlorosulfonic acid, dibenzoyl peroxide, fluorine nitrate, halogens, hydrogen peroxide, isocyanates, oleum, oxidizers, organic anhydrides, ozone, perchloryl fluoride, perchromates, potassium peroxide, P-propiolactone, sodium peroxide, strong acids, trichloromelamine. Strong reaction with toluene diisocyanate. Reacts with alkaline earth and alkali metals. Attacks some plastics, rubber, and coatings. Incompatible with copper and copper alloys. [Pg.116]
