Small-angle scattering SAXS

SAXS experiments are often performed with apparatus that consists simply of a long box, at one end of which is a set of pinholes to collimate the X-ray beam from a generator and at the other end of which is a piece of film or a two-dimensional X-ray detector. The sample is placed in the X-ray beam near the collimator end and a beam-stop to block the direct, undiffracted X-ray beam is placed near the film or detector. The box can usually be evacuated to avoid scattering of the X-rays by air. More elaborate cameras are also sometimes used. [Pg.38]

X-Ray small-angle scattering (SAXS) experiments to obtain the relative densities of extended defects (dislocation, stacking faults etc) were carried out with Cujj -radiation with a nickel filter and by using an amplitude analyzer [6]. [Pg.638]

The sol-gel process and the prepared monoliths can be studied using a variety of characterization techniques. There are some techniques that are more appropriate for monolith characterization such as UV-visible-NlR spectroscopy, refractive index measurements, density, XPS, porosity, small-angle scattering (SAXS), mechanical properties, and NMR. Reference [39] discusses these techniques extensively, which is beyond the scope of this chapter. [Pg.325]
