Postpartum Sleep Deprivation

The impact of maternal postpartum sleep deprivation on the mother s daytime sleepiness and mood has not been studied extensively. There is evidence that maternal daytime sleepiness is prevalent throughout the first postpartum year. Many mothers report increased daytime sleepiness (105), napping (106,107), and fatigue (108,109), and there appears to be an association between overall sleep quality and daytime sleepiness (105).
