Slanting beams

The SMX mixing (Fig. 8.4c) element consists of a structure of opposing slanting beams, whose main axis is at right angles and at an angle to the pipe axis. These geometric conditions can be optimally adapted to any task. 

The roof passage. I remembered that long-ago procession with the owl up the main staircase, past the Queen s Room, into the creaking passageway of the most ancient wing where the floorboards slanted and I had to duck the lowest beams. And then I realized the danger. My mother s room would be lost. 

The closest distance to the mixer outlet at which the FTC LDV meaisurements could be performed x = 0.05/ ) was determined by the slanted angle of the intersecting laser beams (practical constraint imposed by the TARS geometry, shown in Fig. 11.4). As stated earlier, the postmonochromator optics should prepare the incident beam in a way that avoids angle and wavelength averaging effects that would smear (or reduce the fringe visibility of) the XSW. Figure 12a shows the X vs. DuMond diagram for the APS undulator source at E7 = 12.50 keV, the Si(lll) monochromator, and the pair of Si(004) postmonochromator reflections. The slanted stripes represent the conditions where Bragg diffraction is allowed on the basis of dynamical diffraction theory. The...
