For fine pulverization, both dry and wet processes are utilized, but increasingly the dry process is more popular because wet grinding ultimately requires drying and is much more energy intensive. A sensitive fan swirls the dust sizes into the air separator and permits coarse particles to recycle to the grinding mill or be rejected as tailings the fines are drawn into cyclones where the dust is collected. [Pg.170]

Dry-Process Cement After crushing, the feed may be ground from a size of 5 to 6 cm (2 to 2 /2 in) to apowder of 75 to 90 percent passing a 200-mesh sieve in one or several stages. [Pg.1871]

As an alternative to the wet process described above, moulding compositions may be made by mixing a powdered resin or a methylol derivative with other ingredients on a two-roll mill or in an internal mixer. The condensation reaction proceeds during this process and when deemed sufficiently advanced, the composition is sheeted off and disintegrated to the desired particle size. In the dry process the limestone and clay materials are crushed and stored in separate bins and their composition analyzed. After the composition is known, the contents of the bins are blended to achieve the desired ultimate cement characteristics. The blend is ground to a mesh size of 100-200. Frit may be milled dry or wet. The long established dry process is used for cast iron baths and for chemical plant. Vitreous enamel application by a dry electrostatic method is being used on an increasing scale. In these cases, the frit is milled alone, or with inorganic colouring or refractory additives. This is achieved in cylinders using balls of porcelain, steatite or more dense alumina, or with pebbles of flint, to produce a fine powder of predetermined size. [Pg.735]

Dry Process. Ten kg each of the ground field pea and fababean were passed through an Alpine Pin Mill model 250 CW (Alpine American Corp., Natick, MA) (Figure 1). Two passes through the mill reduced the particle size to less than 325-mesh. The pin-milled flours were then fractionated into light and dense particles by a single pass through the Alpine Air Classifier Type 132 MP at a cut point of 15 microns (800-mesh) diameter between the two fractions (9 ), followed by a reclassification of the dense fraction (20).
