Osman reports that (157a) reacts with the aminodiol (158) to form a product believed to have either structure (159) or (160), and that the reaction of (157b) with (158) in boiling benzene led to the formation of a mixture of (161) and (162). Addendum. Section 2 should also have included a report of the X-ray structure of (167), which exhibits almost regular tbp geometry with the 2-thienyl group in an equatorial position, but not co-planar with the equatorial rings.

Two new types of six-co-ordinate phosphorus compound whose exact stereochemistry is as yet unknown are represented by the zwitterion (100), obtained from a spiropentaoxyphosphorane and a substituted pyridine, and (101), with an ion-pair formulation." A further novel feature of the latter is the presence of two bidentate and two unidentate oxygen ligands attached to phosphorus.
