7 Simple Model using Aorta Compliance and Peripheral Resistance [Pg.265]

The simplest possible model of the cardiovascular system takes into account the compliance of the aorta and the arterial system. The resistance tMt the blood flow encounters is assumed to be represented by one so-called peripheral resistance. This situation is shown in Fig. 18.5. [Pg.265]

It is assumed that the heart delivers a flow Fa with a pressure Pw. [Pg.265]

This situation can easily be represented by a flow analogy as shown in Fig. 18.6. Here a pump dehvers a pressure Pu, the liquid flows through a resistance Ra with flow Fa and subsequently through a resistance Rj, with flow Fp. Attached is a piston with capacitance C which is equal to A lk, A being the piston area and k the spring constant. The following equations hold for this analog  [Pg.265]
