The silyl enol ethers 209 and 212 are considered to be sources of carbanions. and their transmetallation with Pd(OAc)2 forms the Pd enolate 210. or o.w-tt-allylpalladium, which undergoes the intramolecular alkene insertion and. 1-elimination to give 3-methylcyclopentenone (211) and a bicyclic system 213[199], Five- and six-membered rings can be prepared by this reaction[200]. Use of benzoquinone makes the reaction catalytic. The reaction has been used for syntheses of skeletons of natural products, such as the phyllocladine intermediate 214[201], capnellene[202], the stemodin intermediate 215[203] and hir-sutene [204]. [Pg.49]

When the protected ester is deprotonated with lithium cyclohexyliso-propylamide, transmetalated by the addition of dichloro(dicyclopentadienyl)zirconium, and finally reacted with aldehydes, predominantly twm -diastereomers 15 result. For different aldehydes, the ratio of 15 to the total amount of the syn-diastereomers is between 88 12 and 98 2 while the chemical yields are 71 -90%. Furthermore, high induced stereoselectivity is obtained the diastereomeric ratios of ami-15/anti-16 arc between 95 5 and >98 2. [Pg.484]

Transmetalation of 19 by treatment with two equivalents of diethylaluminum chloride generates the aluminum enolate species 23. The latter reacts with acetaldehyde to produce the stable aluminum aldolates 24 which do not undergo the Peterson elimination23. Another recent disclosure examined silicon-to-copper transmetallation as a mild means of synthesizing alkenyl-copper reagents from stable precursors. The method requires activation of the silyl group by an allylic alcohol. Again, the silanes in this work are produced by circuitous means but should be accessible by ruthenium-catalyzed hydrosilylation. Treatment of the silyl alcohol with a stoichiometric amount of copper(l) /rz -butoxide results in the C-to-O migration of the silyl group to produce a vinylcuprate shown to be competent for subsequent allylation to produce 1,4-diene products (Scheme 17). [Pg.803]

The Diels-Alder reaction outlined above is a typical example of the utilization of axially chiral allenes, accessible through 1,6-addition or other methods, to generate selectively new stereogenic centers. The addition of carbonyl compounds towards lithiated 1-siloxy-substituted allenes does not proceed in the manner described above for alkoxyallenes. Tius and co-work-ers found that treatment of 1-siloxy-substituted allene 67 with tert-butyllithium and subsequent addition of aldehydes or ketones led to the formation of ,/i-unsaturated acyl silanes 70 (Scheme 8.19) [66]. This simple and convenient method starts with the usual lithiation of allene 67 at C-l but is followed by a migration of the silyl group from oxygen to C-l, thus forming the lithium enolate 69, which finally adds to the carbonyl species. Transmetalation of the lithiated intermediate 69 to the corresponding zinc enolate provided better access to acylsilanes derived from enolizable aldehydes. Aldol reactions of silyl enolates are promoted by a catalytic amount of transition metals through transmetallation generating transition metal enolates. In 1995, Shibasaki and Sodeoka reported an enantioselective aldol reaction of enol silyl ethers to aldehydes using a Pd-BINAP complex in wet DMF. Later, this finding was extended to a catalytic enantioselective Mannich-type reaction to a-imino esters by Sodeoka s group [Eq. (13.21)]. Tin enolates of ketones can be generated by the reaction of the enol acetate 733 with tributyltin methoxide[601] and they react with alkenyl halides via transmetallation to give 734.
