Silver dibenzoate iodide

The precipitated silver iodide is removed by filtration and the dibenzoate isolated by evaporation. The reaction can be carried out with preformed reagent or with reagent generated in situ. As part of the aldehyde synthesi.s formulated, Hershberg refluxed a mixture of 0.1 mole of allylbenzene, 45.8 g. of silver benzoate, 25.4 g. 

An alternative route to 1,2-diols reacts alkenes with a mixture of silver carboxylate and iodine rather than with peroxides. Prevost found that silver benzoate and iodide converted styrene to 1,2-dibenzoate 272, which could be saponified to the l,2-diol. 358 xhe transformation is called the Prevost reaction.3 6 This... 

Palladium catalysts again featured in cyclization reactions to yield ben-zazepines. Palladium and silver species were used to catalyze a ring-closure step in the total synthesis of clavicipitic acid (130L4528) while palladium was used to catalyze the annulation of an aryl amide onto an aryl bromide for the synthesis of a number of dibenzo[l>,e]azepin-6-ones (13CC7623). Annulation of aryl iodides onto aryl aldehydes to form dibenzo[fc,c]azepin-11-ones was also reported (13JOC8136).
