Signal matching

Uses For tracer powder and red-colored flares. In combination with barium nitrate it is used in aviation for signaling and for illuminating landing fields and military objectives. In marine signals, matches, and railroad flares. 

A different approach to signal matching is to calibrate each detector independently. Because each detector is calibrated independently, the signals can be matched through the corresponding calibration curves alone, eliminating the need for offsets.

Corrections need to be made for instrumental effects, such as mass bias and detector dead-time (see Section 3.10). Using the signal matching procedures outlined in this guide this can be achieved by running an alternating sequence of standards and samples.

IDMS analysis of the sample blend was then carried out using replicate measurements as described for the exact signal matching technique. Five replicate measurements were carried out using ions with m/z of 318 and 330. The mean ion abundance ratio of the sample blend ( ) was 0.98803 and that of the reference standard blend 0.95462. Equation 11 (Annex 3) produced a result (cx) for the first iteration of 3.944 figg of / ,/ -DDE in the sample solution. 

The greatest accuracy attainable by MS is achieved by Isotope Dilution Mass Spectrometry using an exact signal matching method. Like other SIM techniques, an isotopically labeled internal standard is added gravimetrically to the analyte, prior to extraction from its matrix.
