The modes of encoding information as electrical quantities can be subdivided into analog domains, lime domains, and the digital domain, as illustrated in the bottom half of the circular map in Figure 1-2. Note that the digital domain is not only composed of electrical signals but also includes one nonelectrical representation, because numbers presented on any type of display convey digital information. [Pg.539]

The time between successive LO to HI transitions is called the period, and the time between a LO to HI and a HI to LO transition is called the pulse width. Devices such as voltage-to-frequency converters and frequency-to-voltage converters may be used to convert time-domain signals to analog-domain signals and vice versa. These and other such data-domain converters are discussed in Chapters 2-4 as a part of our treatment of electronic devices and will be referred to in other contexts throughout this book. [Pg.540]

Schaar In any of the EGF receptor mutants, is there an analogous story to Caenorhabditis elegans vulval development, where the receptor has to bind a PDZ domain and be localized in order to signal properly ... [Pg.197]

In addition to its role as the P-subunit of PHY, PDI acts independently by catalysing thiol/protein disulphide interchange. The role of PDI as the P-subunit in prolyl 4-hydroxylase is not related to its disulphide isomerase activity and experiments where the vertebrate PDI was mutated in both thioredoxin-like active domains had no effect on tetramer assembly (Vuori et al., 1992). PDI appears to function as a molecular chaperone, retaining the a-subunits in the correct catalytically active, non-aggregated form in the ER-lumen (John et al, 1993). Dissociation of the P-subunits results in insoluble aggregates of the a-subunits, analogous to a-subunits expressed in the absence of PDI. An additional function of PDI in the complex is to maintain the ER luminal location of the a-subunits, since deletion of the ER retention signal from PDI results in the secretion of the complex (Vuori et al., 1992). [Pg.189]
