Aerosolized steroids clearly play an important role in the present-day management of asthma (87). They are reasonably safe and work best when taken prophylacticaHy. Patient compliance, however, remains a significant problem. In part this problem is typical of any aerosolized agent. But in the case of steroids, the problem is exacerbated because a patient needs to take the steroids (especially prednisone) are the antiasthmatic agents of last resort and are widely used to treat status asthmaticus. An agent that could mimic the actions of steroids but which would work faster and/or without side effects might be the ideal antiasthmatic agent. 

Control of Plant and Process Modifications Many accidents have occurred because plant or process modifications had unforeseen and unsafe side effects (Sanders, Management of Change in Chemical Plants Learning from Ca.se Histories, Butterworth-Heinemann, 1993). No such modifications shoiild therefore be made until they have been authorized by a professionally quahfied person who has made a systematic attempt to identify and assess the consequences of the proposal, by hazard and operability study or a similar technique. The medical management of dysmenorrhea should relieve the related pelvic pain. Effective management of dysmenorrhea also results in a reduction in lost school and work days. Table 46-2 identifies the agents used in the management of dysmenorrhea, their recommended doses, and their common side effects.
