Shutdown project completion

Project shutdown planning establishes the duration of the project, the resources needed to complete each activity, and the required sequence of performance of each job. 

The work that is required to complete the work orders will be resumed the next working day following the shutdown unless higher priority work prevents continuation of this work. In the event of tie-in work, completion of the capital and other special engineering projects will be done as priorities dictate. 

The HIMAC-NIRS Program. After the shutdown of the therapy facility at Berkeley, the National Institute for Radiological Sciences (NIRS) in Chiba, Japan initiated a therapy program with carbon ions. In 1993, construction and installation of the Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC) was completed. This was the world s first carbon-ion accelerator fully dedicated to medical use in a hospital environment. The HIMAC project was part of the Japanese government s 10-year plan against cancer. 

The activities currently under way will continue for the next few years. The Shutdown PSA project will be completed next year. Other initiating events will be analysed under the PTS project. 

Finally, there are sometimes aspects of plant electrical engineering in which the electrical design will interface directly to the process, most commonly in electrolytic processes. Here there is no mechanical equipment intervening between the process and the electrical supply. The flow of information within the project team is different. This must not be allowed to be the cause of error or omission, such as failure to completely specify the electrical characteristics of the cells, the back e.m.f. and its significance under shutdown conditions, and the insulation requirements for busbars and potentially energized and accessible equipment.
