Shrinkage pool

Shrinkage pool n. An irregular, slightly depressed area on the surface of a molding caused by uneven shrinkage before hardening is complete. [Pg.880]

Results (fig.2) show that the parent material is almost stress free. In the weld pool tensile bulk (around 60 MPa) stresses were found, whereas the opposite occurs in the heat-affected zones (HAZ). Curve shapes are consistent with theoretical and experimental behaviours reported in literature [6,7], and suggest the presence of structure change stresses , according to Macherauch s definition [7], This means that a superposition of the shrinkage stress due to different cooling rates inside and at the borders of the weld, and structural change stresses due to the presence of different phases can be outlined. [Pg.428]

Since there is now a nonnal probabilistic model for m given the data, one can generate all different sorts of features from the model summarizing variability, confidence about parameter values, and so on. We also point out in passing that the mean of the posterior distribution is actually a weighted average of the observed mean (jf) and the mean of the prior distribution (zero). This is known as a shrinkage effect and demonstrates how the Bayesian approach can pool the current data collected with prior informalion. [Pg.191]

Plastic shrinkage cracks do not seem to cause problems in some situations, but in other cases, they provide an entry for de-icing salts and may contribute to freezing and thawing damage (Pool 2005). [Pg.598]

The cooling and sohdification of the weld pool is accompanied by a parallel shrinkage of the weld metal itself that is prevented by the adjacent base metal that... [Pg.633]
