Adults are shield-shaped, green, tan, brown, or gray /2-in (1-cm) bugs. Most species are smooth, but a few are spiny or rough-textured. They overwinter in weeds in waste areas. Females lay 300-500 barrel-shaped eggs each when the weather warms. They hatch in a week into oval-shaped, wingless nymphs that look similar to the adults. Nymphs develop to adults in about 5 weeks. [Pg.339]
