Shelter Signal

Stream. Lobster, tail-waving newts, and possibly fanning fish produce information currents that propel chemical signals toward recipients. In the lobster, the female sends a current with pheromone into the male s shelter. The male, in turn, draws water toward himself and fans it out into the surroundings, signaling his mating status (Atema, 1986). 

Insects often use chemical signals for finding shelter, oviposition sites, mates, and food. Until recently, most of chemical insect research has been focussed on how flying insects find their mates. Typically means an anditory alarm (e.g., siren) or visual indication (e.g., flashing lights) to warn of a hazard aspect occurring over a wide area (e.g., toxic gas release in a chemical plant tsnnami approach, etc.) and the need for immediate actions to prevent injury or damage (e.g., evacuation, shelter-in-place, etc.). The effectiveness of the signal is dependent on its capability to be observed, the population s awareness of the signal characteristics, and the actions to be taken upon its activation. 

All other employees are to 1. Immediately proceed to their closest tornado shelter. If an employee is out of their normal work area, he/she must proceed to the closest shelter available. 2. Not turn off computers, typewriters, printers, or lights. 3. Stay away from all windows. 4. Not leave the building they are in. 5. Alert any visitors to the signal and take those visitors with them to the tornado shelter. 6. Stav in the shelters until (describe how the Plan Coordinator will indicate the all clear, i.e., a public address (PA) announcement or other signal).
