Benzoylindoline (223 g, l.Omol) was dissolved in CH2CI2 (2.23 1) and Mn02 (261 g, 3.0 mol. Diamond"Shamrock grade M) was added. The mixture was heated at reflux and agitated for 18 h. The reaction mixture was filtered and the solid washed with hot CH2CI2 (200ml). Evaporation of the solvent left 7-benzoylindole.

The only U.S. manufaeturers of trichloroethylene are DOW Chemical in Freeport, Texas, and PPG Industries in Lake Charles, Louisiana (CMR 1986 SRI 1987). These two manufaeturers have a eombined annual production capacity of 320 million pounds (SRI 1987). Prior to 1982, Ethyl Corporation, Diamond Shamrock, and Hooker Chemieal manufactured triehloroethylene (CMR 1983 Mannsville 1992).

The appearance varies considerably ranging from brown, white or pink tablets to yellow, clear, red and black or red and yellow capsules, often with pictures, designs or logos. It is taken orally.
