Seven, symbolic importance

McIntosh, Christopher. The Rosicrucians. Wellingborough Crucible, 1987. Almost 120 years after his death, the body of Father Christian Rosenkreutz was discovered perfectly preserved in a seven-sided vault. So runs part of the legend concerning the birth of the Fraternity of the Rosy Cross, with its mysterious founder Christian Rosenkreutz, forerunner of the many "Secret Masters" who have had such a profound influence on the course of the Western Esoteric Tradition. Alchemy, Freemasonry, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and important literary works have all been enriched by the legend and symbolism of Rosicrucianism. [Pg.471]

The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) recommends the use of the International System of Units (SI) in all scientific and technical publications [13]. Appendix A list the names and symbols adopted for the seven SI base units, together with several SI derived units, which have special names and are relevant in molecular energetics. Among the base units, the kelvin (symbol K) and the mole (mol), representing thermodynamic temperature and amount of substance, respectively, are of particular importance. Derived units include the SI unit of energy, the joule (J), and the SI unit of pressure, the pascal (Pa). [Pg.7]

One (liuyi ni). It is typically made of seven ingredients, but is said to have this name even when it is obtained from a different number of substances. The function played by this mud is even more important than that played by the Mysterious and Yellow. Symbolically, the Mud of Six-and-One closes the seven openings in the body of original Chaos that, in an account that will be examined later in this book, are said to be caused by the emergence of Yin and Yang and, thus, to result in the emergence of the cosmos. [Pg.10]

In 1928, the CWS formalized the standardization of chemical agents. Seven chemical agents and smokes were selected as the most important. The seven, with their symbols, were mustard agent (HS), methyl-difluorarsine (MD), diphenylaminechlorarsine (DM), chloroacetophenone (CN), titanium tetrachloride (FM), white phosphorus (WP), and hexachlorethane (HC). Phosgene (CG) and Lewisite (L) were consid-... [Pg.27]

The crystal system relates the shape and syrmnetry of the irrrit cell. Table 3.5 sitrmnarizes the seven crystal systems. The simplest and lowest syrmnetry is triclinic, while the highest is cnbic with four threefold axes. It is important to note that the symbol it used in this context means not necessarily unequal, as in some cases coincidental pseudosymmetry may arise with cell dimensions resembling those of a higher syrmnetry crystal system, but without the reqitired symmetry elements within the unit cell. [Pg.95]
