In addition to GH, sermorelin acetate (geref), a synthetic form of human GHRH containing residues 1-29, is FDA-approved for diagnostic purposes. Sermorelin used therapeutically (30 /tg/kg/day given subcutaneously) was less effective than GH in clinical trials. This agent will not work in patients whose GH deficiency results from defects in the anterior pituitary.
