Charlotte Haber also claimed that there were religious motives. Fritz, she wrote, had become friends in Jena with a young Protestant theologian, and was inspired by the Sermon on the Mount. This explanation seems dubious, for Fritz Haber rarely expressed religious sentiments or entered a church except on ceremonial occasions. 

Can it be argued that the Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount embody a store of moral idealism that will serve mankind for a long time -irrespective of their origins If some aspect of the Christian ethic still seem worth while today, does it add or detract from their validity that they were promulgated two thousand years ago by worshippers of the Amanita Muscaria ... 

The Sermon on the Mount provides a summary of New Testament ethical teaching (Gospel of Matthew, Chaps. 5, 6 and 7).
