Westcott s Translation of the Sepher Yetzirah was a primary source for the rituals and Knowledge Lectures of the Golden Dawn. This is the Third Edition of Westcott s translation, first published in 1887"... 

It will be helpful to contemplate the following in the light of the 18th tarot key, The Moon, which the Sepher Yetzirah names the corporeal, or incarnating, intelligence.

Some time in this period the Sepher Yetzirah, which presents the mystical philosophy that became the basis for the Kabalah, is written in Palestine. 

Individuals unfamiliar with the Kabbalah have had experiences described in the Zohar and Sepher Yetzirah [two classical kabbalistic texts] and have demonstrated a surprising familiarity with kabbalistic symbols.6... 

But where, then, is to be found the idea of Fire We would reply that it is in the water, for Just as Jacob Boehme tells us that "the watery matrix holdeth the Fire captive" (The Threefold Life of Man. Cap. vii, para. 70), so we have fire produced from water in II Maccabees i, 19-20, while the Sepher Yetzirah, i, 10, says that "from the water He formed Fire."...
