Selenoprotein From Rat Testes

Very recently, a selenium-containing protein with a molecular weight of approximately [Pg.13]

000 daltons was reported by McConnell . The protein was isolated from the testes of sexually mature rats and apparently does not appear until the onset of sexual maturity. Calvin has also recently reported a selenoprotein which he isolated from rat sperm tail and it will be interesting to see if these two proteins are identical. It has been felt for some time that selenium was necessary in the diet of domestic animals, especially male animals, to ensure fertility and efficient reproduction. The isolation of the above selenopro-tein(s) may have some bearing on this aspect of fertility. [Pg.13]
