SELECT VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES WITH CARE

To make money, people sometimes select jobs that fall short of what they enjoy. A paycheck helps compensate for the effort. With no pay, a person should be careful. The key to the right volunteer activity is to know yourself and be honest with yourself. This means matching that which provides the most rewards for you with what is available in your community. If your rewards are right, you will probably stick with it. If the rewards are not right, you should leave. Your volunteer role should do something for the organization, but it also should do something for you. [Pg.85]

If you are a religious person, you may want to contribute your services totally to your church. If you like to help people who are ill, and you would be comfortable in the atmosphere of a hospital or nursing home, look carefully at the opportunities in healthcare. If you love children and work well with them, you may want to make your contribution in the educational field. Cultural activities appeal to many, especially those who like activities with prestigious organizations. The opportunities are many. [Pg.85]

In selecting a volunteer position, consider all your interests, aptitudes, and desires. To discover new groups and learn more about available opportunities, contact your Senior Information Center or your local library. [Pg.86]
