Seismic acquisition system

In order to test technical solution for the km3 installation, the INFN installed a deep sea test site at 2000 m depth, 25 km E offshore the port of Catania (Sicily) supported by the infrastructure of LNS, Laboratori Nazionali del Sud. An underwater station consisting of a basic NEMO module (junction boxes, towers and data acquisition system) will be installed within 2007. The NEMO test site is also available for oceanographic research such as the GEOSTAR-INGV (Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia) project, the Italian station of ESONET (European Seismic Observatories Network) [54],... [Pg.238]

After often a lengthy period (several months) of acquisition and processing, the data may be loaded onto a seismic workstation for interpretation. These workstations are UNIX based, dual screen systems (sections on one side, maps on the other, typically) where all the trace data is stored on fast access disk, and where the picked horizons and faults can be digitised from the screen Into a database. Of vital Importance is access to all existing well data in the area for establishing the well - seismic tie. 2D data will be interpreted line by intersecting line, and 3D as a volume. [Pg.20]

Earthworm (http //folkworm.ceri.memphis.edu/ ew-doc/), is the most widely used system for earthquake and volcano-seismic monitoring today. It is an open-source, data acquisition, and earthquake detection framework developed by the US Geological Survey. It comprises of modules that communicate via messages on shared memory rings. It is used in the National Earthquake Information Center, tsunami warning centers, and regional seismic networks. Earthworm is in widespread use at volcano observatories... [Pg.2912]
