Figure 15 shows the primary and secondary dendrite arm spacings in the specimens. Both primary and secondary arm spacings increase with an increase in the distance from the chilled surface. The secondary arm spacing differs little between the two steels, whereas the primary arm spacing, compared at the same location, is smaller in rare-earth-added steel than in rare-earth-ffee steel. This distinct tendency was observed in both ingots and continuously cast slabs.
